For those who follow me on Facebook or even Twitter, some of this news will be old hat - but news it still is. And there is some brand new news too! There is a publisher called SALT who is making waves at the moment - they recently published Alison Moore's Booker Nominated THE LIGHTHOUSE and they have built up a very impressive stable of authors and are bringing out an extremely diverse range of books.
I will be joining Salt in an editorial capacity - firstly for a series called BEST BRITISH HORROR, launched next June or July. It will showcase the very best of British talent writing in the horror genre with reprints of stories first published in 2013. If you have written a story that's been published for the first time in 2013 and you'd like to find out how you would be able to submit it for consideration, please visit this dedicated Facebook page.
The second project for Salt is a stand-alone horror anthology called DEAD FUNNY. It will be edited by the award-winning comedian Robin Ince and myself. This book will be showcasing horror stories by the cream of British comedians, stand ups and comedic writers. The table of contents will be made public as soon as the stories are locked in, but as a teaser, I am over the moon to announce that Alice Lowe (Sightseers and Garth Merenghi's Darkplace) will be writing an original horror story for the book.
Some very exciting times ahead; I'm over the moon to be working with Salt and the horror genre has certainly received a boost in the arm with the commissioning of these two horror anthologies. As the massive publishers are scared of their own shadows at the moment, it's a breath of fresh air to see independant publishers such as Salt take these books to the bookshops and ultimately, to the fans.
